Overview

Each winter, Harford County HOPE for the Homeless Alliance (HCHHA) expands local shelter capacity to ensure that no one is left outside in dangerous weather. This effort is made possible through financial support from the Harford County Department of Housing & Community Development, a grant from The Dresher Foundation, and the generosity of private donors.

Our mission is simple: provide safety, dignity, and a path to stability for our homeless neighbors. HCHHA is entirely volunteer-run. We have no paid staff—every meal, every ride, every bed, and every act of compassion comes directly from our community. Thank you to every volunteer, donor, and church whose hands and hearts made this winter possible.

How It Works

The Harford Community Action Agency partners with HCHHA to coordinate shelter placements. This past winter:

Together, we created a supportive and compassionate network of care throughout the coldest months.

Does It Make a Difference?

Absolutely.

This winter, 19 people—including 12 children—were sheltered in motels, and
65 adults found safety through the rotating church shelters.

That’s 84 people kept out of the freezing cold.
Even more importantly, 16 individuals moved into permanent housing—a life-changing milestone for each person.

These stories of transformation are why we do this work.
